Compost tea like topdressing with compost is an up and coming thing for one reason, they both improve the soil and are good for the environment. Topdressing with compost is one step toward a more organic approach to lawn care because most soils in today's lawns lack adequate organic matter. An additional step would be to apply compost tea. Compost tea is basically compost that is put in water usually in some type of porous bag and agitated by circulating water through it to excite the micro-organisms. This brown water full of very active micro-organisms is then sprayed onto the lawn. The combination of having a good compost on the lawn and later spraying on these highly active micro-organisms can greatly improve the turf and soil health.
