I was recently reading an open letter on topdressing.biz that is helpful. A Canadian study done on topdressing turned up some good results when they applied compost to turf. They found the following benefits 1. Increase in natural soil nutients 2. Improvement in soil chemistry 3. Reduction in soil compaction

A simple new way to manage sports fields is on the horizon, Linear Aeration on topdressed fields. Linear Aeration is a new technology that cuts 1/2'' wide grooves 3'' deep in the sports field. This is done after topdressing, which makes it easy since the user would utilize the same tractor to topdress and aerate. The Linear Aerator cuts grooves, incorporates the native soil with the topressing mix already on the field, then brushes the blended material back into the grooves. It is great for decompaction, drainage and aerification of the soil. For more information check out www.linearaeration.com .
